Conroe car and truck accident lawyer

Accidents Suck. Call Jimmy.

Conroe is the Montgomery County seat, about 40 miles north of Houston on I-45, and it has grown by about a third since 2020. Many of its main roads are being widened at once. Depending on which side of the city limit a crash happens, the report can come from Conroe police, a sheriff’s deputy, a constable or a DPS trooper.

Who works a crash in Conroe?

Inside the city limits, the Conroe Police Department. Conroe also has its own municipal court, where any traffic ticket from that crash goes. That ticket is a separate matter; it does not decide who pays for your injuries.

Conroe’s limits are not obvious from the road, and much of the growth around it is in unincorporated Montgomery County. There, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office answers calls; its East Patrol district covers the north I-45 corridor from FM 1488 to the county line and the north and east sides of Lake Conroe. The county’s constable precincts also patrol, and on rural state highways, Texas DPS troopers investigate most crashes.

Whichever agency it is, the officer must file the report within ten days, and the report is sold through TxDOT’s crash records system. We find the right one and request it; see how to get a Texas crash report.

I-45 North: the Houston–Dallas interstate, under construction

I-45 is the interstate between Houston and Dallas, and it runs straight through Conroe, past The Woodlands to the south. Commercial trucks share it with commuters all day. TxDOT has several projects on it at once: extending the HOV lane between FM 1488 and South Loop 336, and building a new direct connector from northbound I-45 to eastbound SH 242, scheduled to run into 2028.

Work zones mean lane shifts, closed ramps, sudden slowdowns and concrete barriers with no shoulder. When an 18-wheeler can’t stop in time, the crash is different from an ordinary car wreck. Federal safety rules apply to the driver and the carrier, more than one company can be responsible (the carrier, the trailer owner, a broker, a construction contractor), and the evidence — electronic logs, engine data, dashcam video — is kept only a short time. We send a demand to preserve it right away. More in the preservation letter in a truck case.

SH 105, Loop 336 and the lake traffic

SH 105 is the east–west spine of town. It passes near Lake Conroe, comes into the city, crosses I-45 and keeps going east toward Cleveland. Lake Conroe covers 19,640 acres, and the people living, boating and visiting around it reach town on 105 and on FM 1097, which TxDOT has been widening near the lake.

Inside town, TxDOT is widening SH 105 from two lanes to four between 10th Street and South Loop 336, with work scheduled into 2028, and has been rebuilding 105 east of the Loop toward FM 1484. Loop 336, which circles Conroe, is being widened to four lanes with a center turn lane between I-45 and Ladera Creek Trace. Two-lane roads turning into four-lane roads, while still carrying traffic, produce left-turn crashes, rear-end crashes at shifting lanes, and drivers confused by temporary striping.

When road work is part of what happened, the contractor and the agency that owns the road may share responsibility with the drivers. A claim against the State of Texas or a county comes with a notice deadline far shorter than two years, which we track from day one.

FM 3083, SH 242 and roads built for a smaller town

Conroe grew fast. The Census Bureau named it the fastest-growing large city in the country from 2015 to 2016, and its population went from 89,956 in the 2020 Census to an estimated 119,564 in July 2025, a 33% jump in five years. The roads are catching up.

FM 3083 loops about 16 miles around the south and east of town, from FM 1485 to SH 105. TxDOT describes its stretch between SH 105 and I-45 as “an undivided two lane roadway” and has proposed improving it to “accommodate population growth and development” and add sidewalks and wider shoulders. To the south, SH 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 is being widened and its intersections restriped. New subdivisions on two-lane roads mean school buses, delivery vans, people walking along the shoulder, and drivers pulling out into traffic that moves faster than the road was designed for.

Claims against the City of Conroe or Montgomery County

If a city vehicle, a county truck or a sheriff’s patrol car caused the crash, the claim falls under the Texas Tort Claims Act. State law gives a government the right to written notice within six months (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 101.101), but a home-rule city like Conroe can set a shorter deadline in its charter. We check Conroe’s rule at the start of every claim and send the notice ourselves. The Act also caps what a government pays: $250,000 per person for a city or the state, and $100,000 per person for a county (§ 101.023).

For an ordinary crash between private drivers, the deadline to sue in Texas is generally two years (§ 16.003). A lawsuit over a Conroe crash is often filed in Montgomery County, whose courts sit in Conroe as the county seat.

Hospitals and medical bills

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, at 504 Medical Center Boulevard, is designated a Level II trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, down I-45, received Level II trauma verification from the American College of Surgeons in 2018. EMS decides where to take you based on your injuries; the most serious may be flown or driven to Houston. Wherever you are treated, keep every follow-up visit. If you have no health insurance, tell us; see can’t afford medical bills after a crash.

In Spanish, directly with Jimmy

About 30% of Conroe residents are Hispanic, and more than a quarter speak a language other than English at home, according to the Census Bureau. Jimmy Suerken is Mexican-American, grew up in El Paso, and handles cases in Spanish himself. You talk with him directly, by phone, text, email or video call, and in person when needed, wherever you are in Texas.

We never ask about immigration status, and your right to compensation for an injury in Texas does not depend on it. Once you hire us, you don’t talk to the insurance companies, the trucking company, the contractor or the city. We do.

What to do

Your next steps

Today

Get medical care and follow through

Go to the ER or your doctor, tell them everything that hurts, and keep every follow-up appointment.

While it is fresh

Write down where it happened and who was there

The road and nearest cross street or exit, and which agency came. Keep photos of the scene and any work-zone signs, and, for a truck, the company name and USDOT number on the door.

From now on

Don’t sign anything or give statements

Not to the other insurer, a trucking company, a contractor or the city. Send those calls to us; we handle them.

Questions

Common questions here

Who writes the crash report in Conroe?
Inside city limits, the Conroe Police Department. Just outside them, it may be a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy, a constable or a DPS trooper. We find the right agency and request the report.
Is there a deadline for a claim against the City of Conroe?
Yes, and it is far shorter than two years. State law gives a government six months’ notice by default, and a home-rule city like Conroe can set a shorter deadline in its charter. We check it on every claim and send the notice ourselves.
An 18-wheeler hit me on I-45 in a construction zone. Who is responsible?
Possibly the driver, the trucking company, the owner of the trailer and the construction contractor, each for their share. Federal safety rules apply to the truck, and its logs and data are kept only a short time, so we demand that they be preserved right away.
Where would my case be filed?
A lawsuit over a Conroe crash is often filed in Montgomery County, whose courts sit in Conroe. Most cases are resolved without a trial, and you talk with Jimmy directly about every decision.
How long do I have to file a lawsuit?
In most Texas injury cases, two years from the crash (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.003). Claims against a city, county or the state need notice much sooner. It is better not to wait for either.
Will you ask about my immigration status?
No. We don’t ask, and your right to compensation for an injury in Texas does not depend on it.
