Airline Drive and Northline accident and injury lawyer
Airline Drive runs north from Northline, where the Red Line ends, into a stretch of unincorporated Harris County that the City of Houston surrounds but does not include. Along the way it is a shopping street, a bus route and one of the corridors the city has marked for pedestrian safety work.

One road, two governments
North of Loop 610, Airline Drive passes through Northline, a City of Houston neighborhood between I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road. The city counts about 53,800 people in its Northside/Northline super neighborhood, and about 83% of them are Hispanic (2020–2024 American Community Survey).
Keep going north past Canino Road and much of what you see is no longer Houston. The Texas Legislature created the Airline Improvement District in 2005 for the Airline and Belmar areas, which the bill analysis described as “surrounded by the City of Houston but excluded from its corporate limits.” The district runs roughly from Canino and Carby Road north to West Road, and from Sweetwater Lane east to the Hardy Toll Road, with parts of its edge following Airline Drive, Aldine Mail Route and the Houston city line.
That line is the first thing we check in every case here, because it decides who writes the report and which deadline applies if a government vehicle was involved.
Who writes the crash report?
In Northline, the Houston Police Department’s North Division. Its own page lists the Northline and Independence Heights communities, and its station is at 9455 West Montgomery. HPD’s beat maps put the area between I-45 and the Hardy from the North Loop up to Tidwell, and from Tidwell up to West Canino, in North Division beats.
In the unincorporated Airline area, the call goes to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. A crash on the I-45 main lanes or the Hardy Toll Road may be worked by another agency again. Two crashes a few blocks apart on Airline can have reports from two different departments. We find the right one and order it; see how to get a crash report in the Houston area.
Which deadline applies?
For a claim against a private driver or business, Texas gives two years to file suit (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.003). Claims against a government move much faster. Inside Houston city limits, a crash caused by a city vehicle or employee requires sworn written notice to the City of Houston within 90 days. On the county side, Harris County is entitled to written notice within six months under the Texas Tort Claims Act (§ 101.101), and so is METRO. The Act also caps damages: $250,000 per person against a city, $100,000 per person against a county (§ 101.023). We confirm which government is involved and send the notice for you.
Is Airline Drive dangerous for people on foot?
The City of Houston’s own numbers say it is. In a 2023 federal safety grant application prepared with the Greater Northside District, the city reported that most of the Airline Drive corridor is on its High Injury Network, meaning half-mile stretches with at least two crashes that killed or seriously injured someone. Across the four corridors in that application, including Airline and Tidwell Road, it counted 1,025 crashes from 2017 to 2021, with five people killed and 21 seriously injured. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $10.1 million in December 2023, and the plan includes intersection work on Airline at Parker Road and other cross streets.
Farther north, Harris County’s Airline Drive project between West Gulf Bank and West Road adds sidewalks on both sides, a raised median, five marked pedestrian crossings, bus pads and lighting. The weekend flea markets along Airline, such as Sunny Flea Market, draw big crowds of shoppers, with cars turning in and out of lots and people crossing to reach them.
If a driver hit you while you were walking, the driver’s insurer will often try to put part of the blame on you, and Texas reduces a recovery by your share of fault and bars it above 50% (CPRC chapter 33). Your own auto policy, or one in your household, may still pay, even in a hit-and-run. More in hit by a car as a pedestrian.
The end of the Red Line
The Northline Transit Center/HCC, next to the Houston Community College Northline campus and the Northline Commons shopping center, is the northern end of METRORail’s Red Line. Buses meet the trains there, including route 56 Airline/Montrose, which stops along Airline at Tidwell and Little York and runs north to the Greenspoint Transit Center. Route 6 Jensen/Greens crosses the area along Aldine Mail Route.
A crash with a METRO bus or train, or one that happens while you are getting on or off, is a claim against a governmental unit. The six-month notice deadline applies, and the Act limits what can be recovered. We confirm METRO’s procedure and send the notice.
I-45, the Hardy and commercial traffic
I-45, the North Freeway, runs along the west side of Northline, and the Hardy Toll Road along the east. Between them, Airline, Tidwell and West Little York carry delivery vans, work trucks and tractor-trailers headed to businesses along the corridor. When a commercial vehicle is involved, federal safety rules and the company’s own records come into the case, and that evidence does not last long. See why truck evidence disappears.
In Spanish, directly with Jimmy

We never ask about immigration status, and your right to compensation for an injury in Texas does not depend on it. Once you hire us, you don’t talk to the insurance companies, METRO, the county or the city. We do.
Your next steps
Get medical care, and say how it happened
Go to the ER or your doctor and tell them everything that hurts. If you were on foot or near a bus or train, make sure the record says so.
Note the block and cross street
Airline and the nearest cross street, or the station or ramp. That decides whether HPD or the sheriff has the report. Keep photos and any bus, train or truck number you saw.
Don't sign anything or give statements
Not to an insurer, METRO, the county or the city. Send those calls to us; we handle them.
